Sandy's Cupcake

6" x 6" oil on canvas panel
$95 unframed, $5.95 shipping

At home trying out my workshop lessons. This cupcake was in celebration of a classmates birthday. Before I chomped it down, I took a quick photo of it. I did take a bite out of the back but luckily it did not show in the photo. While I was painting it, I was struck by how similar painting frosting is to painting a rose. Never thought about it before!

Doors - 1

8" x 8" oil

On day 3 of the workshop we got to paint from our own photo. This is a door I spotted and photographed while in Tuscany a few years ago...actually it was almost 4 years ago now. Yikes, time flies! I was fascinated by the entrances of so many of the buildings....charming, to the max! There might be some more doors in this series. Stay tuned. This was the last day of the workshop. Next, to try this stuff at home.

Musical Easels Upside down

6" x 6" oil

Day 3 and we played musical easels. Each student was given a photo. Some were instructed to paint their painting with the photo upside down (I was an upside down girl). The first painter gets to start their own painting, painting about 10 minutes at their own easel. When the music stops, everyone takes their brush and moves to the next easel to continue painting at that easel.....after changing locations 6 or 8 times, you get to go back to your own easel to see what you see.....and you can have 3 brush strokes to make adjustments before show and tell....Eventually, you can fiddle with it as much as you want to, but everyone's turned out quite well, actually. This is my "Upside down Cupcake by Committee! I like it!

Workshop Landscape

8" x 8" oil

Day 2 of the Dreama workshop. Again painted from an out of focus photo to start....Love the freedom of changing things up to improve the photo....in this one the window box changed size, shape, color and location....and everything about the flowers changed from the original photo. Also, I am in love with loose brush strokes, bright colors and less blending! It will be interesting to see how this workshop influences my paintings!

Workshop Still Life

8" x 8" oil

Sorry that I have not been posting for a LONG time....I am going to attempt to catch up! I have actually been painting and studying quite a bit. So...back to January. This is the first painting I did while at the Dreama Tolle Perry workshop in Marco Island...Lots of fun trying new techniques starting with a photo that was out of focus! That sure took the "squinting" out of the equation! Couldn't really tell what we were painting..just shapes and values until the second photo was handed out! Revelation!!! the flower was a turning away rose ;-).
