Re Do

Today's painting is a re do of one that I painted before. A friend heard that Alizarin Purple was a great color to use when painting copper and I wanted to try it....WOW!! It really brought this pot to life. It was dull and wimpy before I used my new tube. Now I think it looks like metal!

Zippo Challenge

This challenge was to paint the Zippo lighter with only 3 colors...French Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna and Titanium White...I loved figuring this out! I was also good practice for painting reflective metal....I am ready to tackle some silver somethings! I remember my grandfather having a lighter like this!

Antique???

When do you get to call something antique? Day 3 was all about metal. I decided on these scissors at the last minute....my morning was about a brass bunny....not to be posted! After lunch I went with stainless steel. These scissors are always in my painting supplies. They make me smile. They are "Hello Kitty" scissors that were my daughters. I guess technically they still belong to her, but...Since they are about 25 years old, can I call them antique or just old?

Day 2 of the workshop was all about glass. Everyone got to set up their own composition and light source....I kept changing my glass object and again wiped off a few before I got started....I can't wait to try glass again...challenging and fun!

White on White

Last week I attended a workshop with artist and teacher Carol Marine. Each day Carol painted a demo on the topic of the day....the first day was all about white! Sounds simple until you find out that white isn't white! So, after a few false starts, "wipers"...and some comments and corrections from Carol, here is my "Day 1".

20 minutes?

So, after painting this pear a few times, as a sample and as a demo, I decided to see what would happen if I tried to paint it again in 20 minutes....well, it actually took 30 minutes...but I was happy with the looser feel and the brighter, prettier colors. Lucky Find

I call this one Lucky Find because I think that finding a pear with its leaves still on at the grocery store is super lucky! I actually hand carried it through the check out line and out to the car! I was thinking that I needed a red pear to complete my pear series....so here it is. A friend told me that she thought these pears look wooden...I think she is right. I took a few pictures of this little guy so you might be seeing more of him in upcoming blog posts. I hope you like it as much as I do!

Flowers, grrrr! A few wipe-offs later, I have a painting to post. I can see the simple shapes in other painters work and I envy their vision. Practice and easel time. That's the ticket!

I am still painting stuff to eat...although, this time something besides orange.....A friend asked me how I got the eggplant to stand up.....I used a little bit of kneadable eraser in the set-up and then just painted it out.......tricky, I know! These little guys are so cute, and just the right size for dinner for two......YUMMY!

It was fun painting these yellow pears! So, I have painted a few green pears, now these yellow ones and next...red? I wiped it once...that is how I came up with the lime green ground! It was interesting to see where I wound up eventually!

I am noticing lots of poppy paintings on blogs these days, and mine is no different. This is another one that I painted outdoors. Poppies have such a beautiful color and the texture appears so fragile, almost like tissue paper. Next time, back to the studio for me!

Going Green

Back from a fun and "cool" trip! I painted this apple with my friends...Everyone's turned out great! I just got a new camera...I am still learning about how it works. I am looking forward to better color and less glare! Keep your fingers crossed for me. Thanks!

"Basket and Beans"

I found this cute basket in my Easter decorations......I had forgotten that I had it. I guess it will go into my prop closet now. Jelly beans are always fun to paint.....love those colors! I am glad that there were some pink ones left.....perfect for my color scheme!

"Three's a Crowd"

I have loved the color of these eggs since I saw a "chicken" episode on Martha Stewart many years ago.....I even wanted to get some chickens in order to have the eggs......That did not happen, but I have a friend who raises them and she gave me some of her eggs to paint......Thanks, Laurie!
